About Me

With my beloved Wapuu at WordCamp US in December 2016

My name is Nicole. I’m a writer, nerd, and native Pennsylvanian. I love strawberries, all things yellow, the Oxford comma, and Pokémon. (I have, in fact, caught them all. Twice!)

By day I work for Automattic (I’m on Team Pi for WooCommerce); by night I can usually be found chasing my dogs around the backyard, watching TV with my husband, lurking on reddit, or playing a tabletop game.

The “pengie” in this URL comes from my nickname, which I’ve gone by online for about sixteen years, and also what I call penguins (my favorite animal).

Five fun facts about me:

  1. My favorite book is Thackeray’s Vanity Fair.
  2. I’ve been listening to Japanese music for 15 years and speak the language at a preschool level. So I can sing “Let it Go” in Japanese for you at karaoke! #uselesstalents
  3. My typing speed is anywhere between 95-98 WPM, but let’s not talk about my error rate.
  4. Before I decided I was going to be a writer, my career aspirations were to be a police officer, firefighter, and grocery store checkout clerk at Jerry’s Food Rite. In that order, strangely enough.
  5. My favorite Pokémon is Raichu.
